| The
coastal town of Salou lies in the south of Catalonia, in the province of
Tarragona. The capital of the Costa Dorada boasts numerous beaches and coves of fine golden sand making this the main attraction for visitors to the area, as well as the famous Theme Park Port Aventura. In addition, the mild temperatures which it enjoys all year round have turned Salou into a paradise as far as climate is concerned. The vegetation is typically Mediterranean and one of the places where you can admire the floral richness is the Jaume I Promenade located on the seafront with its colourful flowers and its impressive palm trees which, indeed, have made the promenade the focal point of the town. The history of Salauris, as the Romans originally called Salou, goes back to Roman times. In the 13th century it enjoyed great splendour reflected in the importance of its port. King James I sailed from the port of Salou to conquer Majorca which is why the promenade was named after him. Nowadays Salou is a first-class holiday resort visited by thousands of people who seek fun or who just simply want to relax. Although the pleasant climate and the magnificent beaches are attractive enough in themselves, we must also mention the delicious gastronomy, the wide range of leisure activities on offer (water parks (Aquópolis), theme park (Port Aventura), golf courses etc.), cultural activities (Roman Tarragona, Modernist Reus, The Cistern Monastery route etc),and the surrounding countryside (Delta del Ebro, Sierra de Monsant, Sierra de Prades, nice places to make hiking, climbing, kayak, etc…). The Playa Park Hotel can be found amidst this beautiful setting of rich countryside and sharp contrasts in a peaceful area ideally situated overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. |
